  Traditional home improvement coatings are organic coatings (commonly known as paints). The volatilization of organic solvents is very harmful to the environment and human health. Countries around the world have formulated strict environmental regulations to limit industrial emissions. Engineers have also designed water-borne coatings with low VOC emissions. The main components of water-borne coatings are polymer emulsions and additives, as well as water as a solvent or dispersant. Therefore, it is a green, environmentally friendly and healthy coating variety. However, there are still some shortcomings in the application process of water-borne resins, such as low hardness and poor wear resistance. The overall performance is still inferior to that of traditional oil-borne coatings, and the market promotion in the field of furniture coating is weak. Modify the water-borne resin, obtaining water-borne coatings that are comparable to traditional oil-borne coatings is a key technical problem that needs to be solved urgently in the coatings field. In the preparation of water-borne wood coatings, adding special colloidal silica components can increase the hardness of the coating and improve the aging resistance, water resistance, and anti-blocking properties of the coating film. Therefore, the colloidal silica modified water-borne wood coating has become The research hotspot of the coating industry.
  1. Colloidal silica improves the hardness and anti-blocking properties of water-borne wood coatings
  Add appropriate amount of colloidal silica to the water-borne wood coating, so that during the drying process of the coating, silica particles will be filled in the three-dimensional network structure formed by polymer chains. Meanwhile, the silica particles condense to form a -Si-O-Si- network structure. The addition of inorganic rigid silica nanoparticles makes the coating harder and more scratch-resistant, and improves the service life of the wood coating. The hard silica nanoparticles in the colloidal silica can also enhance the adhesion resistance of water-borne wood coatings.

  It should be noted that ordinary colloidal silica cannot be used in water-borne wood coatings because the compatibility of ordinary colloidal silica with resin is very poor, which will cause post-thickening until gelation.
  Only the modified special colloidal silica can be used for water-borne wood coatings.
