  The composition of colloidal silica is simple, and it is a dispersion system of colloidal silica nanoparticles dispersed in water/organic medium. The morphology of colloidal silica nanoparticles has an important influence on its performance. At present, the morphology of commercial colloidal silica nanoparticles is mostly spherical, with a particle size of 3-150 nm. However, with the development of science and technology, colloidal silica nanoparticles with various morphologies have been synthesized, such as potato-like, strip-like, bead-like, popcorn-like and other special morphologies of colloidal silica.

  It is well known that the structure determines the performance. Colloidal silica nanoparticles with different morphologies have different performances. For example, long strip, dendritic and bead-like colloidal silica will cross and overlap each other during the drying and film forming process, so the film forming performance is significantly better than ordinary spherical colloidal silica.
